When I adopted Mo I had no idea what a Border collie was. I'm embarrased to admit it, but the fact that these dogs are brainiacs with superhero herding abilities was initially lost on me. I just thought Mo had a screw loose when we brought him home and he proceeded to crouch down and stare at Billie the cat (a practice that continued for for the next 11 years!).

I've been enjoying this video that shows what Mo would have been up to if he'd had a nice field and a flock of sheep.

I don't think Billie would necessarily agree, but I think it was a pleasure being one of Mo's surrogate sheep!

Go adopt a Border collie.

As soon as I brought Mo home as a year old Border collie, I began to trust that dog's instincts and opinions of people. If Mo didn't like someone, I didn't like someone.  If Mo approved, I trusted that fully.

While watching Barack Obama's inauguration today, I said to myself "I think Mo would really like this guy". Later I read that the Obama's are going to adopt the Presidential dog from an animal shelter. As if we needed another reason to love Barack and the whole Obama family.

Mo, who found his way to us via the Toronto Humane Society,  would most certainly agree that the U.S. President is off to a grand start.

Mo

Summer 1992 - Thursday January 15th 2009

Mo,

It was a sad sad week here as we slowly accepted that it was time to say so long to Mo, our best friend for going on 17 years.

I think there is a sense that the older a dog (or person) is, the easier it will be to say good bye.  I don't know about that theory anymore.  I think after Mo passed the 15 year mark and continued to bounce back from health scares, I started to think of him as a bit immortal. I worried less about losing him, and secretly harboured the idea that he would live to some super-hero dog age. Which, I guess, as a 17 year old, he did.

Mo, the house feels empty without you, and we are missing you like crazy. We are also grateful that you were by our side for so long, and we had the honour and pleasure of growing up together.

We love you. xoxo

That's 112 in Dog years!

Shouldn't Mo get a letter from the Queen or the Dog Whisperer or something??

Border Collie celebrating turning sixteen!
Mo, you are the best.

Happy Sweet Sixteen Mo
Mo only wishes he got to eat this cake.

Thanks to Mrs. B & Dawg for thinking of Mo when they came across the truly hilarious "Pets Observation Porthole".
Since we have chain link fencing, I think we should put this in the side of our house.

The weirdest part is Mrs. B and Dawg gave us the SkyMall catalouge with this picture, while we were all out for lunch.  We forgot the magazine in the restaurant, and went back for it a couple of hours later (we couldn't leave THIS!).  The staff let us go through their lost and found, but our magazine had already been snatched up.  There was however a different catalogue, which was - get this - ALSO SELLING THE PETS OBSERVATION PORTHOLE!!!
Is this a widespread trend that i have completely missed???
